Affordable, Abundant Housing

What is the connection between affordable housing and climate justice?

Many people in Oregon struggle to find a home they can afford in a neighborhood with the things they need to thrive, like good-paying jobs, green spaces, and walkable neighborhoods.

As we face more and more extreme weather, wildfires, and climate disasters, affordable, abundant housing will be the first line of defense. Resilience starts at home, but we simply don’t have enough homes for everyone.

In Oregon, neighbors look out for each other. Increasing resources for affordable housing is key. The Affordable, Abundant Housing portion of our 2023 legislative agenda focuses on increasing the number of affordable homes in our state and making sure they are built in a way that will most benefit frontline communities.

Housing Choices (HB 2001)
Many people in Oregon struggle to find a home they can afford in a neighborhood with the things they need to thrive, like good-paying jobs, green spaces, and walkable neighborhoods. The Affordable, Abundant Housing provisions in the bill will increase the number of affordable homes built in our state and make sure they are built in a way that will most benefit frontline communities, addressing the housing crisis today and for the long term.

Oregon Just Transition Alliance also supports the 2023 Fair Shot for All housing agenda, which includes the following bills:

Eviction Reform and Reduction (HB 2001)
Strengthen eviction laws to avoid preventable homelessness and suffering, using the lessons learned during the pandemic.

Reasonable Rent (SB 611, HB 2733)
Stabilize our families and economy by ensuring rents do not rise more than a reasonable amount annually, statewide. Without amendment, the current law will likely allow rent increases in excess of 15% in the coming year.
