Our 2024 legislative agenda

In 2024, the Oregon Legislature held a six-week short session. Our legislative agenda advanced the pillars of the Oregon Green New Deal by focusing on key budget asks that invest in resilient communities and a just recovery, ensure housing justice, and advance clean energy opportunity.

Frontline communities are most impacted by the climate crisis, including people of color, low-income families, people with disabilities, and people in rural areas. These legislative solutions will create a more healthy and resilient Oregon where everyone can thrive.

Priorities

  • Healthy Homes - PASSED!

Healthy Homes is an innovative Oregon grant program that goes directly to household-serving organizations that do essential home repairs and improvements across the state. Its goal is to keep low-income families healthy, reduce medical costs and energy bills.

  • Water Equity Funding - PASSED!

Oregon communities face pressing challenges as our water systems bear the weight of aging infrastructure, inadequate investment, and the compounding impacts of climate change. These stressors hit environmental justice communities harder, amplifying historical injustices and illustrating the necessity for tailored support and investment.

  • Climate Change Fund - MISSED OPPORTUNITY

Part of Oregon Worker Relief, the Climate Change Fund funding request did not move forward. We urgently need to invest in immigrant justice to ensure due process to protect the rights of those most vulnerable and to ensure farmworkers are safe and financially stable when they lose work due to extreme heat and wildfire smoke.

Endorsed bill

The COAL Act - PASSED!

This is a huge moment in Oregon and greatly contributes to the national movement to divest from fossil fuels. The COAL Act (HB 4038) aims to move our state’s investments out of dirty coal and keep pensions and state finances safe. The COAL Act will direct the Treasury to phase out publicly traded investments in coal, halt new investments in coal, and report on the phase-out of coal.
