The application deadline for the Energy Justice Leadership Institute has passed. Please stay involved though! We’ll let you know when we need your help.

We know that a just transition means that we must build a just energy system, and that there’s a lot of work to be done!

Which is why we’re excited to launch the Energy Justice Leadership Institute, to build leadership in communities that are impacted most by our energy system and influence our policies. This will run December 2020 through end of June.

We are looking for diverse participation throughout Oregon. Accepted participants will receive $500/month stipends.

Please click here for the online application to participate in the Energy Justice Leadership Institute. The application deadline is Sunday, November 22, 2020.

The Energy Justice Leadership Institute will create space for participants to learn together, share experiences, and shape our energy policy to ensure that it truly serves communities that are most impacted by our energy system.

The first phase of EJLI will be online learning sessions, that will be once per week on Zoom for 2 hours (5:30-7:30pm) and will begin on Thursday, December 3 and end on Thursday, January 14, 2021.

5-week EJLI Learning Series
WEEK 1 (12/3): Energy and You

WEEK 2 (12/10): Where Does Energy Come From?

WEEK 3 (12/17): Who Controls Energy?

WEEK 4 (1/7): Visions for Energy Future

WEEK 5 (1/14): Next Steps

The learning sessions will feature guest speakers and be led by Verde’s Climate and Energy Policy Manager, Oriana Magnera.

Graduates will join district-specific teams in mid-January, where they will learn how to talk to their lawmakers about why Energy Democracy is important to them.

EJLI, Part 1 (Dec-January 2021): $500 stipends for this educational series.

EJLI, Part 2 (Feb-June 2021): Stipend amounts to be determined based on funding availability.

EJLI Part 2 has both non-advocacy and advocacy components.

Energy Democracy in Oregon will directly benefit low-income and frontline communities already burdened by rising energy costs, while also advancing climate action, by including a statewide just energy standard.

For the first time in Oregon’s history, frontline communities are leading a statewide energy policy. This campaign strives to pass a renewable and just energy standard in the State of Oregon with more aggressive goals than currently in place.

Energy Democracy in Oregon would reduce climate pollution, decrease utility costs for families already struggling financially, create good, local jobs and increase opportunities for Tribal and rural communities. Stay updated about this exciting campaign by signing up for our e-newsletter.
