Three big wins in the Oregon legislature

Celebrating three community-led policies to increase resilience

We did it!

Oregon Just Transition Alliance and our member organizations successfully passed all of our legislative priorities built from the vision and voices of our communities!

With community support from folks like you and organizers across the state, we advanced workers’ rights, racial justice, resilience against climate disasters and environmental justice for all.

Environmental Justice for All - HB 4077
Led by Unite Oregon
This bill invests in Oregon’s Environmental Justice Council and provides a new mapping tool to help identify patterns of pollution and climate burdens, socioeconomic indicators of disadvantaged and vulnerable communities, and assess environmental vulnerabilities.

Farmworker Overtime - HB 4002
Led by PCUN
Fair pay is a key step to increasing community resilience as Oregonians face more and more climate crisis-fueled disasters and extreme weather events. Starting in 2023, farmworkers will begin earning overtime pay after 55 hours of work and over the next few years overtime pay will begin after 40 hours of work like other Oregon workers.

Emergency Heat Relief - SB 1536
Led by Verde, Rogue Climate and Coalition of Communities of Color
Oregonians deserve access to affordable, efficient, and safe heating and cooling during extreme weather events. A broad coalition of stakeholders focused on public health, housing, and environmental justice united successfully to expand access to cooling for low-income Oregonians less than nine months after a deadly heat wave..

Thank you for testifying, sharing on social media and sending emails to our lawmakers! Together, frontline communities are stopping the bad and building the new for a just transition in Oregon.
