We’re hiring an alliance manager!

As the alliance manager at Oregon Just Transition Alliance, you will play a key role in building capacity for the organization’s work. You will be responsible for strategically growing and engaging OJTA’s alliance, as well as engaging with a number of partners and coalition members outside of OJTA’s formal alliance on key OJTA campaigns. You will organize existing members of the OJTA coalition by deepening long-standing relationships and increasing coalition members’ levels of engagement. You will also create and nurture positive relationships between OJTA and new potential organizational coalition members, as well as relevant community thought leaders throughout Oregon. You will work closely with the deputy directors and executive director and collaborate with other staff members to ensure the growth of the coalition. Your primary responsibilities will encompass outreach, coalition communications, alliance communications, advocacy, and event planning. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Coalition and Alliance Management (30%): 

  • Communicate frequently with existing coalition members, both inside and outside of our alliance, about organizational goals, strategies, plans, and achievements.

  • Regularly hold relational meetings with coalition leads and partners to deepen understanding of their organizational goals, challenges, and vision regarding OJTA’s work. 

  • Regularly provide opportunities for engagement, large and small, for coalition members in OJTA’s work. 

Alliance Growth (25%): 

  • Build, regularly update, and expand a list of organizations and community thought leaders across Oregon who should be engaged in OJTA’s work. 

  • Develop materials, procedures and scripts for reaching out to possible supporters, coalition, and alliance members. 

  • Develop plans for outreach and coalition expansion, including clear timelines and metric goals. 

  • Regularly conduct outreach to engage and grow these potential members. 

Administration (20%): 

  • Build and manage systems, documents, and procedures to track all interactions, large and small, with current or potential coalition and alliance partners. 

  • Help develop and implement a formal alliance membership process for OJTA.

  • Draft written communications to reflect alliance member updates, activities, and wins. 

Event Planning (15%)

  • Lead or assist in planning and executing events for members, coalition partners, OJTA work groups, and/or staff retreats (e.g. annual member retreat, lobby days, celebration parties, member events).

  • Coordinate with internal departments (e.g. policy, development, communications) to align event goals and ensure deliverables are completed on time.

  • Lead and organize a group of selected members to help plan member retreats, providing direction, setting clear roles, and ensuring tasks are completed on time.

  • Create detailed event timelines, budgets, and run-of-show documents.

  • Liaise with vendors (e.g., food, art) to ensure timely delivery and setup.

 Policy and Advocacy Support (10%): 

  • Engage potential coalition and alliance partners  in OJTA’s policy advocacy efforts and priority campaigns in collaboration with the advocacy director. 

  • Gather ideas and input from coalition and alliance members on current or possible future OJTA policy advocacy efforts. 

  • Provide feedback internally on how OJTA policy advocacy efforts align with coalition values and goals. 

Qualifications (knowledge, skills & abilities) 

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in program management, project planning and strategic planning. 

  • Strong understanding of environmental justice, climate change, and Just Transition principles, including lived experience. 

  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship, communication, and team-building skills. 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and self-awareness, with an appetite for continued growth.. 

  • Demonstrated commitment to social and environmental justice and advancing racial equity. 

  • Experience working with and taking direction from diverse communities, namely with historically disenfranchised communities. 

  • Strong commitment to the vision, mission, and values of Oregon Just Transition Alliance. 

  • Team player capable of working both collaboratively and independently. 

  • Demonstrated initiative, accountability, collaboration, and transparency. 

  • Demonstrated commitment to building power for Black, Indigenous, People of Color, people with disabilities, and low-income rural communities in Oregon. 

  • Knowledge of climate justice principles. 

Physical Demands 

  • While this job is currently remote, it will involve occasional driving long distances for in-person meetings, hearings, and other events. A driver’s license and vehicle registration is required. 

  • This job requires using a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. 

  • The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motions. 

Location: 

Candidate must be based in Oregon within three months of hiring. This position is about 80% work-from-home, as all staff are expected to occasionally attend in-person monthly staff meetings, fundraising events, and retreats that are held across the state. Laptop provided. Phone and internet stipend provided. Travel expenses are 100% covered. 

Compensation: 

This is a salaried, exempt, full-time position. The annual salary range for the alliance manager $60,000 - $75,000 Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance at no cost to the employee; 401k plan with up to 5% matching contribution; an annual office closure for summer and winter (three weeks total), four weeks paid vacation, 14 holidays, 12 paid sick days a year, and five (5) paid well-being hours weekly.
