Meet our alliance manager, Alexander Vasquez-Ibarra

Alexander Vasquez-Ibarra has been involved in community-driven advocacy for a decade. At 14 years old, he began organizing in Southern Oregon to condemn racial profiling and the use of School Resource Officers (SROs) in schools that disproportionately target youths of color. An absence of ethnic studies, a severe lack of diverse staff, and prejudice radicalized him to push for bilingual support staff and teachers. He advocated for better treatment, resources, and opportunities in his school district, and the work quickly grew to nearby school districts.

He is a storyteller, educator, connector, disrupter, and seeker of liberation from the harmful and oppressive power structures of the colonial capitalist world that silence marginalized voices. He’s also a lifelong learner, and a student on a journey to impact the world through compassion, empathy, and kindness. He believes in building collective liberation together.

As an Indigenous person, he roots deep to grow tall in all aspects of his life to ensure balance in his work and in his life. He (re)connects with his culture through weaving, music, and Indigenous language revitalization in order to remember ancestral wisdom and let it anchor him throughout the passage of his life journey.
