We oppose federal troop deployment in Oregon
Keep troops out of Oregon.
We condemn the federal government’s decision to send troops into our state. Militarization has no place in Oregon. What makes our communities strong is care, connection, and the beauty of Oregon, the place we call home.
Oregonians stand united in stopping this assault on our families, our freedoms, and our future. People come here to live free, but troops on our streets threaten that freedom. They’re turning our communities into battlefields instead of places where families can thrive.
Make no mistake. These troops are an act of authoritarian rule meant to silence our communities for opposing the Trump administration’s treatment of immigrants. Bringing in military forces undermines local democracy, drains resources, and spreads fear. It scapegoats immigrants and communities of color, trying to divide us when what we need is unity and strength.
Hardworking immigrants are part of our families, communities, workplaces, and places of worship and they should be safe from harassment, just like any other Oregonian. It’s obscene to spend millions of taxpayer dollars on weapons and soldiers when our state is struggling with inflation, wildfire recovery, and housing costs. We should be using those funds to build community resilience.
We reject the Trump Administration’s violent attempts to militarize Oregon. These troops protect the wealthy few and the extractive system that puts profit over people. A Just Transition means the opposite: investing in safe homes, strong communities, clean energy, and the freedom to shape our own future.
Oregon is united in saying no to troops and yes to justice, care, and liberation.
Know your rights, report what you see, and take care of your community
The Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition (PIRC) has been tracking ICE activity in Portland for months. If you see ICE, other federal officers, or suspicious activity, you can report it to PIRC by calling its hotline anytime at 1-888-622-1510.
Avoid spreading unsubstantiated rumors on social media, as these are often untrue and can cause more panic than help. When reporting what you’ve seen, try to capture as many details as possible, including exact location, car license plate numbers, number of officers, and other identifying details.
Action alert
Now is the time for all of us to speak out and make clear that this military takeover is a violation of our rights and our freedoms and a danger to our communities.
Tell Congress: Military troops do not belong on our streets.
